Jeff Moors Fundraiser

Over 130 anglers from across the country turned out to support a fundraising event in aid of Potteries match angling legend Jeff Moors, who has sadly been given just months to live following a battle with cancer.
Jeff Neil and Dave
The event organised by Dave Smith and held at Border Fisheries near Crewe was fished over the fourlakes of the bottom complex and despite some rain and strong winds proved to be a fantastic success.
Dave said “ When Jeff told me the news a few weeks back I was to say the least stunned, Moorsy is a man I respect not only as an angler but also as a mentor for young anglers, he is a true ambassador for our sport. I phoned Neil Machin to let him know about Jeff and Neil said we should do something to show our respect for Jeff and a fundraising match seemed to be the best option. Little did I know just how many people would be in touch for places, the response was overwhelming at one point we had 139 pgs booked and 16 people on the reserve list, so I had to stop taking names.”
The lakes on the complex were split onto 10 sections and produced the following results.
Three Islands:
Section 1 C Jones 15-0
Section 2 C Fletcher 25-0
Staceys Pool
Section 1 D Pickering 10-00
Section 2 S Turner 30-12
Meridian Canal
Section 1 C Hibbs 35-14 3rd
Section 2 N Plummer 47-6 1st Ball Green Boddingtons
Section 3 T Robinson 33-15 4th Maver Midlands
Section 4 D Willan 32-12 5th Fox
Robbies Pool
Section 1 K Dennis 38-8 2nd
Section 2 D Burrows 17-4
Match winner Neil Plummer drew peg 30 on the Meridian canal where he fished maggot at 14m into 18” of water on the far shelf taking Carp and Barbel to 5lb.
Dave added, “Thanks must go out to the angling trade who donated prizes for the raffle, to the angling media who helped greatly to promote the event and to Bay Malton AC who provided not only the venue free of charge but also staff to assist on the day. The atmosphere on the day was tremendous with many of the section winners collecting their brown envelopes only to put them back into the pot. To a man we were all there for Jeff and I am not ashamed to say that my own and many other eyes filled with tears on many occasions as Jeff made his way around the pegs. However after a few moments smiles replaced the sadness and the fishing banter took over.”
Following the match Jeff presented winner Neil Plummer with a commemorative plate and it was announced to the gathered anglers that the event had raised £5,500.00.
Dave continued, “ Many of the anglers continued their support of the day by attending the after match social event at a local hotel, where Jeff was presented with the cash. In typical Jeff style he made time to speak to all who attended, but by 7.45pm he was feeling the effect of the day and his batteries were on reserve to say the least, so having said his farewells Mandy and I took him home where he sat down in his armchair and started to read all the cards and letters that had been sent to the fishery.”

Second evening match at Dunham Fisheries

Second round looking good for me and Gary as Ian and Dal are not in the club and can not fish for the trophy.
The fish were topping all over the lake yet as soon as the all in shout was given they vanished which going back into my holdall to bring out my pole. "You're ot of luck today," said Colin. "You'll be lucky if you get 6 out of that peg." Well I put 14-08-00 for second place. Hope I can do as well in the next four matches.

First  Monday evening match at Dunham Fisheries results

June 8th 2009 by Phil Royle
Draw 5pm £10.00 all in.
Only eight members and two guests fished this first match. Not having fished this water for a long time, in fact only once when it first opened. We had pegs 10 to 32 and I asked Colin DIxon to pick the 12 best from those 22. I also asked Colin about baits, size of fish and so on. Weather not to bad though windy at times with some sunshine therefor not to cold. Peg 32 is the one you want, no, number 25 but then it depends on which way the wind is blowing.
I then asked Colin to pick my peg No. 26 which Colin said was not bad. He then drew his own,16, he was not a happy bunny. Gary Marsland drew 32 and I drew for John Shuff as he was late in arriving, 25.
All in 6pm. First put in for me and a fish on right away, a Barbel of 2lbs which was a good start. Others were catching also but off and on with no one bringing fish to the net regularly. All I could get were Barbel, no Carp. Others were catching Carp but not the big ones which can go up to 12lbs.
9.15pm all out and the weigh in
  1. Phil Royal 12-12-00
  2. Guest Ian 10-04-00
  3. Guest Dale 9-02-00
  4. Gary Marsland 8-10-00
  5. Ron Harding 6-06-00
  6. John Shuff 3-12-00
  7. Colin Dixon 3-10-00
  8. Dave Green 1-12-00
  9. E. Beety DNW
  10. Dicko DNW

The Angling Times Bait-Tech Go Fishing Match

This was between Bay Malton, Trafford Angling and Stockport Waltonians on March 1st 2009
It started back in December 2008 when BMAC were told of the draw and being first out of the hat it was a home draw. Do we go for Border or Brookhouse, we went for Brookhouse.
Practice matches started right away with bags of 10lbs 20lbs and even a 30lbs; looking good. Good fish too: Chub of 3lbs, Perch of 3lbs, Roach of1lb+ Carp from 8oz to 8lbs. Just a week before the match there was a bag of over 40lbs from Les Hunt. Still looking good for us!
The day of the match sorted out the pegging from which we wanted 1 or 3, not number 2. Being the home team  we let Stockport pick first and Trafford pick second. We had the last one and yes it was number 2 which meant we had pegs numbers 2, 5, 8, 11, 16, 19, 22 and 26, none of the fliers we had practiced on that had done well. Still we had practiced on them but knew it would be hard.
First sec. we had Chris Pearce who went on to win with 5-14-0, well done Chris.
Second sec. was Andy Green who came third, no big fish. Top weigh of 13-0-0 came from this sec.
Third sec.for us was Den Martin. Very close up until about five minutes to go when the Stockport lad hooked a Carp about 8lbs giving him sec. win, Den ended up third.
Fourth sec. with Lee Cooper was another close one until the last thirty minutes when big Chub and Perch moved into pegs 10 and 12. That's right, Lee was  was on peg 11 with another third in sec.
Sec.5 was Les Hunt on peg 16 this one must be ours. It was close again but 15 had a big chub right at the end. Hard luck Les but a good second in sec.
Seven sec., Colin Dixon fishing for us  with another close one and a good second in sec.
Eight sec., This sec. was called the road end not fished much in practice. Steve Lane drew this sec. missing out the two end and just using numbers 25, 26 and 27. Steve, right in the middle, won with a net of 5-14-0, well done Steve,
Trafford Anglers were the overall winners on the day. Well done to them and we wish them all the best in the next round.
