Thornhills Fishery
THORNHILLS FISHER UPDATE – 23RD AUGUST 2025
Please note, this fishery is temporarily closed due to low water levels
Following a recent meeting with the land owner, we can confirm that work has started on the fishery.
This will include a new car park, new fences and the removal of some trees.
The water levels still continue to be an issue and ongoing solutions are being explored.
Going forward, the club is looking to recruit volunteers from our members to create working parties to help with the maintenance of the water.
This will include cutting back and general tidying up around the water. The sooner this work is done the sooner the water will open.

Thornhills is a fairly large pool with a large island at one end and two smaller islands at the other end. located next to a conservation area in Goostrey Cheshire. This water also has the advantage of being located behind a shop severing hot and cold drinks and a bait shop. The water levels on this water do drop in the summer months due to the water table.

Carp to 15lb
Bream to 4lb
Tench to 3lb
Barbel to 3lb
Depth – 4ft-11ft
The entrance to the fishery is through the transport yard at Goostrey Home & leisure, through an electric gate (gate code in your club card) if you arrive and the gate is locked you must lock it behind you, same if you leave. Follow the buildings to the pool.

Rules
- No wading or swimming.
- Barbless hooks only Maximum size 12.
- No Braided line allowed.
- No radios allowed.
- No night fishing allowed.
- Fishing from dawn till dusk.
- Fishing from stagings only.
- One rod only allowed.
- Keep nets must be emptied every 5 hours.
- Keep net ban from the 1st March to 16th June.
- All litter to be taken home with you.
- Anyone leaving litter will be dealt with as club rules.
- Anglers under 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult.
- All anglers MUST have a current E.A rod license.
- Parking in car park provided.
- All Vehicles must display a club car sticker.
- Gate code can be found on the back of the front cover of your membership book (Members are reminded that these codes should not be shared with any other person)
