Thornhills Fishery

AUGUST UODATE – This water is now closed for refurbishment.

After weeks of monitoring the water situation at Thornhills, this week we met with the Environment Agency, who agreed, for the welfare of the fish, they needed to be rescued and rehomed.

As you know, this has been an exceptional year for extended hot weather. Unfortunately, despite low water levels in previous years, this year, the trees have taken much more of the water from the pool and the situation has become unsustainable.

On Wednesday, led by the Environment Agency, we worked tirelessly together to rescue and rehome the fish. Approximately over 600lb of carp were rescued and transferred to Brookhouse Pool

Going forward, Thornhills Fishery is now closed until a suitable, long-term solution can be found. Through on-going discussions with the landowner, we have devised a plan to address the issues. This will include cutting back trees, a possible bore hole and the desilting of the pool.

If everything goes to plan, and the water levels remain constant, we will look to regenerate, replant and restock this beautiful pool over the next year.

We will be looking for volunteers to create a work party in the future, anyone that can help, please get in touch.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Thornhills is a fairly large pool with a large island at one end and two smaller islands at the other end. located next to a conservation area in Goostrey Cheshire. This water also has the advantage of being located behind a shop severing hot and cold drinks and a bait shop. The water levels on this water do drop in the summer months due to the water table.
