The Barratt family has owned Brookside Farm for more than 50 years, initially farming pigs and growing vegetables to sell on Hanley and Stoke markets. In 1984 the discussion was taken to diversify and covert a valley into a Trout pool, now known as the bottom pool which is also known as the Match Lake. In 1992, two small pools were joined together, and the Specimen Lake was established.
